Corinthia Hotel Afternoon Tea Review: Last weekend I was invited to the Corinthia Hotel for an afternoon tea with some bloggers. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know I’m a complete sucker for afternoon teas, cafes and cakes. Corinthia Hotel Afternoon Tea Review

I love the sophistication afternoon teas bring with them and the portions that look so little can fill you up for an entire day.

I wore a nice long wrap dress by Holly & Joey from TKMaxx.

Where is the Corinthia Hotel?

Corinthia Hotel is one of the hotels in Westminster. Its just a few minutes walk from Embankment Station which is quite well connected with different underground lines. Corinthia Hotel Afternoon Tea Review

The weather was cold and was totally perfect for an afternoon spent sipping on tea, munching on finger sandwiches/desserts and chatting with some lovely like-minded people.

On entering the Corinthia Hotel you will feel it’s amazing and grand ambience.

Crystal Moon Hall is right at the entrance so you wouldn’t miss the afternoon tea area.

What’s in the Afternoon Tea?

We were offered the Classic Afternoon Tea. There was a vast menu of teas and I chose to have Darjeeling Goom Tea. Corinthia Hotel Afternoon Tea Review

The gentleman serving us made sure we all had food according to our respective dietary needs.

He made sure the meat I had was all halal. I was really happy that they served halal sandwiches and ooh they were yummy!

The finger sandwiches included:

  • Cucumber Radish and Cream Cheese on White Bread.
  • Egg Mayo Truffle & Watercress on Spinach Bread
  • Creme Fraiche & Spring Onion on Brown Bread
  • Tandoori Chicken, Green Apple and Raisin on White Bread
  • Roast Beef, Caramelized Onion and Wholegrain Mustard with Rocket Salad on Granary Bread

Then came the Plain and Sultana Scones served with Rhubarb & Tonka Bean Jam and Cornish Clotted Cream. The scones were warm, soft and very very fresh. They were delicious.

Next, the dessert trolley looked indulgent and divine. The lady serving us gave a nice briefing and made sure we all knew what we could or couldn’t have. There was one item that had alcohol in it. There were also marshmallows that had fish gelatin in it. I was so impressed that she even gave me that detail which was important for me.

Wow! The staff really knew their stuff.

The dessert trolley included:

  • Yoghurt & Blueberry Sphere
  • Raspberry & Elderflower Tartlet
  • Araguiani Chocolate Cassis & Figs
  • Lemon Yuzu & Coconut Eclair
  • Lemon Drizzle Cake

By this time I was so full but I had to try each one of those sweet delicacies.

The tea set, plates etc are specially commissioned, hand-painted bone china by Richard Brendon and his collection can be found right HERE. 

In the end, we were given a tour of the hotel. We visited a penthouse that was beautiful and timeless.

I really didn’t want to come out of this place.

  553. In an early scene in “Smile 2,” the fictional pop
    superstar Skye Riley is in her drug dealer’s apartment.

    “Do you believe in weird stuff?” he asks her, between doing lines of coke.

    You certainly will after this horror romp – writer-director Parker
    Finn’s second movie that suddenly opens up the franchise with
    the promises of multiple directions in the future.
    Not for that drug dealer, though: He soon smiles at her demonically as
    he repeatedly slams a 35-pound gym weight into his head, making it hamburger.

    “Smile 2” lands as unsettling grins are plastered on pumpkins and politicians alike as we approach Halloween and Election Day, and the
    psychotic, overly made-up leads of “Joker: Folie à Deux” have been putting up
    a brave face at their terrible box-office numbers.

    So it’s the perfect time for a sequel to 2020’s “Smile,” which bridged the gap between elevated art horror and straight-out, unapologetic slasher.

    Finn this time takes on fame, a better tonal fit than the generational trauma of the first.
    It’s a meditation on breakdowns in the public eye, with a side dish of body horror.

    We start six days after the last movie but they are barely connected – a
    single character for a few minutes – as we watch a demon that forces its victims to
    smile before meeting a gruesome end working its way
    into the low-level drug game.

    The evil entity will eventually glom onto our heroine, Skye,
    a fictional Grammy-winning pop superstar akin to if Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus had a baby.
    We meet her a year after a horrific car crash she was in that killed her famous
    boyfriend and left her with a Vicodin addiction and rumors about whether she had anything
    to do with it. That drug dealer has now infected Skye, but she has no idea what’s in store (or in score,
    the terrific work of Cristobal Tapia de Veer).

    On thing to really beam about is leading lady Naomi Scott going for it all-out, all snot, smeared blood and wide-eyed, full
    on-fear. Scott manages to pour her humanity into the
    part – diva, whimpering, defiant, strung out, panicked. She even sings on the soundtrack – songs that
    are credible hits.

    The smile demon collides with Skye as she’s about to launch a comeback tour and the
    pressure is on. Finn is at his best here, mocking confessional TV interviews – a Drew Barrymore cameo, a nice touch – full of self-work and apologies:
    “I let you down and I promise this will never happen again.” Her management demands that she show up “smile and read from the teleprompter.” Skye’s mom – on the payroll – is little help: “You need to stay hydrated,” she
    tells her after Skye is clearly in torment.

    Finn has become a much more assured filmmaker and uses humor so well here, from nasty gangsters enjoying pumpkin Frappuccinos to our heroine Googling “Does vomit have DNA?” He’s still fond of jump-scares and
    blood spurting and gross-out tricks, like a body dragged by a
    truck until it’s just a smear with entrails. One delightful moment
    has Skye chased by demonic backup dancers, a Bob Fosse-meets-“Thriller” sequence.

    Finn also has a ball putting his heroines into cringe-worthy
    situations. In the first movie, a murdered cat got
    bundled into a kid´s birthday present. In this one, it’s a impromptu speech in front of
    music industry types that goes horrifically off the rails.
    He’s got a deeper target: How do we quiet those voices in our heads that say we’re no good?

    Finn’s script sometime lags as he searches for an ending for “Smile 2,” seemingly in two
    minds, before basically delivering both, kicking up dream sequences and alternate timelines like
    a squid pumping out ink to cover its tracks.
    Over two hours ends up being too long.

    But he has found a great satirical target, given life to a third film easily and showcased another rising star to watch.
    That’s a reason to, well, smile about.

    “Smile 2,” a Paramount Pictures release that lands in movie theaters
    on Friday, is rated R for “strong bloody violent content, grisly images, language throughout and drug use.” Running time: 127 minutes.

    Three stars out of four.

  556. Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better representing the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the United States. 

    The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to podcast host Joe Rogan  complaining that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party
    system’.

    ‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia at the moment,
    which is the rise of independents,’ Crowe countered.

    ‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have to bring
    a non-party-line series of points to the argument.

    ‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s making both of the main parties re-examine who they are and what they stand for.

    Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’, highlighting
    how US politics is completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.

    There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform
    parties, but these receive vanishingly few votes in comparison.

    Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform well on occasion.

    Joe Rogan (pictured) is one of the most powerful media figures in the world 

    Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the 1968 US election which saw him garner 10 million votes and take
    five southern states, while another disaffected Democrat, Strom Thurmond, in 1948 carried four
    southern states on a similarly racist platform but with only a million votes.

    The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised to get
    on the ballot in dozens of states as an independent candidate before he pulled out and
    backed Republican Donald Trump. 

    He has now been appointed Health secretary
    in Trump’s incoming cabinet. 

    Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

    The former New York property developer had even considered running for president in the 2000 election under the banner of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate Ross
    Perot, who won 19 per cent of the popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral college votes.

    Perot was the most popular minority party candidate since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the
    Bull Moose Party candidate – carrying six states including
    California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

    Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have
    taken votes away from the two traditional parties of Labor and the Liberal-National coalition

    This situation is helped by a strong Green party who now have 12 senators and four members in the House of Representatives. 

    Zali Steggall (pictured) became the first Teal independent to achieve
    huge success when she ousted former prime minister
    Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election

    Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms
    but are fiscally conservative have been labelled ‘teal’ candidates.

    This is because they have combined their ‘green’
    views on climate with the traditional ‘blue’ approach of the centre-right Liberal Party.

    Zali Steggall became the first Teal independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election.

    In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal seat from former
    treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election. 

    She was one of seven Teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench
    to 15, with this tally including the four Greens, three conservative
    independents and progressive Andrew Wilkie.

    Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was
    first aired in August, has recently resurfaced in Teal social media adverts.

    They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who
    founded Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some Teal candidates.

    Not all independents elected in 2022 were Teals,
    however.

    MP before serving the past three decades in federal parliament as the MP for the regional far north

    Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a bid to teach school kids how to fire rifles and a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

    The House of Representatives crossbench grew
    to 16 in late 2022 when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals in protest
    at its opposition to the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. 

    The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member lower house – the highest proportion of non major party MPs since Federation in 1901.

    In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.

    A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of
    the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

    Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims
    that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.

    Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to
    say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

    It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather
    than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months
    before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

    Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but
    Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter:
    ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.

    movie.’

    Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and
    Discovery merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make
    the sequel at a lower price point.’

    The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around
    20 per cent less.

    A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about
    genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going
    to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga

    However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.
