Guest Post: Revlon Colourstay Foundation Review

I am Shehrzad from Pretty Peachy and Pink Blog, Pakistan. First of all I would like to express my  gratitude to Natasha for giving me the joy of publishing the guest post on her blog.It means a lot to me. Now on to the post.

I have tried oh so many foundations and each one had some problem which made me dislike it after sometime. Here are the foundations I have tried till now. However, Revlon Color Stay is that one foundation which holds the honor of repurchase and that too in three different shades and two different formulas. That’s how hard it is to give up on this small Drug Store Wonder *winks*. Every girls who has used it has liked it.Like every single blogger and non blogger girl I know likes it. Shade mismatch or undertone problem makes them drop it after sometime. Also they are confused about the formulas too.The product comes in two types; for dry skin and for oily skin.

However, the skin type of majority of girls does not fall in these strict categories. It is more like combination skin. So I am gathering all I know about Revlon Color Stay Foundation in this post to sort out the problems.Read on pretties….

First thing first lets get the shades sorted out with reference to MAC shade range.

Now as for the two formulas below is a detailed analysis :

PRICE & AVAILABILITY:

Both are available in stores wherever revlon products are available, but sadly only a few shades at a time are available. In Lahore ENEM makeup liberty had a wider range of dry skin formula and so did Alfateh, but this keeps changing. However, internationally both are available at Ulta, Drugstore.com and Revlon website.

Price ranges from 10-12$.In Pakistan you can get it for 1600PKR to 2200 PKR.Some even charge an exorbitant sum of 2500PKR.

PACKAGING:

The foundation is housed in a glass bottle with a black cap.Packaging is almost the same for both dry skin and Oily skin formula except for the cap.The dry skin formula has a transparent halo around the cap. Thats all.Sadly both come without a pump which leads to waste of product.

SHADE RANGE:

Revlon color stay for oily skin comes in 20 shades whereas the one for dry skin comes only in 12 shades.

It is worth mentioning that shades of dry skin formula do not match/coincide exactly with oily skin formula. The one for dry skin appear a trifle darker.

FORMULA:

I just adore the formula of this foundation. It is a liquid formulas which is packed with pigment and easy to spread. It has the required level of hydration. It does not ball up or sticks at all.

Personally I think there is not much difference in scent and texture of the formula. Both have .However, the dry skin formula is more hydrating as compared to the one for oily skin.It just sinks in the skin easily and moisturizes to some extent. This property is very apparent in the swatches(see above).

COVERAGE:

Sheer to medium coverage. It can be layered to give medium to full coverage.

FINISH:

I love the smooth even finish of this foundation. It does not stick to dry spots. The oily skin version settles into a demi matte look and the dry skin formula gives a glowy hydrated look.

You would be happy to know that it does not cause flashbacks in camera light.Looks extremely natural in camera flash. It does show up a bit in natural day light, because of the pink undertones in the foundation. The result I am afraid may not come out very pretty on girls with yellow undertones. It might even give a little whitish look in sunlight.Again the pink base in the formula is to be blamed.

It oxidizes.Yes this is the most off putting thing, irritating fact of all.It changes color after some time and may look a little greyish.I have learned that,in my case, this problem was more pronounced in the type designed for dry skin. However, bear in mind that most foundations oxidize on me(yep my skin acids are very unfriendly :p ) and also the dry skin formula was not very suitable for my skin type in the first place.Wearing a primer solves this problem greatly.I use skindinivea Makeup spray over my makeup in summers and it stabilizes the foundation a lot.

STAYING POWER:

I have very oily skin and I observed that staying power for the dry skin formula was only 5-6 hours whereas that of oily skin is a good 9 hours or so without touchups.I love this foundation for its long stay time. After the mentioned time for both formulas the foundation fades and relatively loses its coverage. However skin still looks and feels smooth.

PORE MINIMIZING:

This baby is packed with silicones(sensitive individuals beware) so it is very good at minimizing pores. In fact this is the only reason apart from long stay time that I keep returning to Revlon color stay.

In winters the dry skin formula gives a much smoother and air brushed look as compared to the one for oily skin. This is probably because it sinks in and becomes a part of skin in a much better way then the one for oily skin.

OIL CONTROL:

In my case(very oily skin) oil shines through after 2 hours in case of dry skin formula whereas the oily skin formula controls it for 3-4hours.After that I need to blot.

I highly recommend it to the girls who suffer from acne because its a great MAC/MUFE foundnation dupe. Also it does not irritate the skin or trigger acne.

In a nutshell if you have found your shade in revlon color stay then you are a very lucky girl ^_^ .Its a great drugstore foundation and definitely worth a try.The girls with neutral or pink undertones will love it.

I hope you all like the review. Thankyou once again Natasha for giving me the opportunity. Do visit my blog for more posts on foundation and makeup.
