How did you become a singer? Please tell us your story.
Music was always important to me. In my childhood I was interested in performing arts, I took dance lessons for 8 years and started when I was 7 years old. I was always busy listening to music and dancing every day until I could not stop as I also wanted to become a professional dancer. Later in life, I started writing my own songs and took vocal lessons.
Which singer inspires you the most?
I always loved artists who sing and dance.
Who is your role model and why?
I don´t have a role model, but in my childhood it was Janet Jackson. I loved her music and style of dancing.
What is your genre of music, and why did you choose it?
Pop music but the music style can change, it depends on the type of song I wrote. I chose it because that’s the type of music I listened to in my childhood, so I think it was a natural process that I would write and sing this type of music.
What is feminism? Interview With Singer Songwriter Sharmila
I think it’s a type of movement that has nothing to do with me. I don´t like to label myself and don´t like people to be labelled. In the music industry women are underrepresented, though for many reasons. I have a song ´ Respect Your Body´, but it’s just me expressing my thoughts and feelings through music.
What is your style in fashion and why?
My style in fashion can change just like my music, it depends on my mood and the occasion. I wear fashion from what I think matches my identity, personality and what feels natural to me.
What is your daily skincare routine?
I enjoy using natural products and I don´t use much makeup. If I use makeup, it’s just some eyeliner and lipstick.
What struggles did you have to face to reach where you are now?
Way too many a woman should ever have to deal with. That’s why it’s so important to choose your country where you can freely be yourself, where you are accepted for who you are and where the tap water is safe. I recently lost my 25-year-old daughter Tanisha, she died on April 3rd from drinking unsafe tap water in Holland.
What message would you like to give to people who want to become a singer?
Stay true to who you really are, focus on your art and what you love.
Where can people follow you? Please include your social media links.
New music is coming up, my 2nd album ´DNA Damage´ and the songs I wrote about Tanisha.
