Traveling to Isle of Wight

We took off in our car from London to Southampton. There is not much to talk about that since it was just roads and motorways, but yes from Southampton to Isle of Wight it was quite exciting as we traveled on a ferry with our little one. It took us one hour to reach East Cowes .

Here is the view from our living room, this is East Cowes Marina in River Medina.

Driving Through Isle of Wight

I was down with a cold on our second day here, with much laziness and forcefully getting myself out of the house, we managed to drive to Sandown  and Shanklin . These are both beaches. We did not get out as it was slightly chilly for my liking. The drive was beautiful with some very picturesque scenes like forests, roads hooded with trees and animals grazing in the fields. Not at all something you would see in London, of course. There is a place called ‘View Point’ where you can sit in your car and look down at the fields, hills and sea. I did not take my camera, so I could not take any pictures but I will take some soon.

We then went grocery shopping and I realized people here are so friendly, it is completely normal for someone to stand for around 5 minutes and have a chit chat with you, nothing like what you will see in London.

Exploring East Cowes

After much struggle with getting my son ready to go out to explore East Cowes, I packed some peanuts and biscuits and went out, I did not know where I was going so I just wandered off thinking, I will get some where. I walked down Clarence road and after walking for 10 minutes I found myself at the edge of the town centre. East Cowes town centre is very small, with a few shops, charity shops, coffee shops, fish n chips places and a huge Waitrose. I came across a Military Museum which was just like a normal shop with some interesting things lying in the showcase, things from the wars.

I next came across a tourist information shop-kinda-thing, it was actually a shop selling clothes and shoes etc. I asked the lovely lady if there were any beaches around and she said, no. ahh, but she said there was an esplanade another 10 minutes walk from there with some children’s’ play area that had some swings and a pool. I walked down and got on the main road, turned left and realized I was at the Red Funnel Ferry terminal. awesome, so its only 20 minutes walk from here but not so beneficial if you are not going by car, you have to go all the way to West Cowes to take a ferry if you are going to main land on foot or by public transport.
