Neerja Review 2016:
Neerja is about a Pan Am Airline purser Neerja Bhanot, who took the risk of saving passengers after the plane was hijacked. She was trying to save 3 little children from being shot and was fatally injured while trying to help them escape.
Neerja Bhanot was born in 1963 in Chandigarh, India to Rama Bhanot and Harish Bhanot, a Mumbai-based journalist.
She passed away in 1986 in Karachi as she succumbed to her injuries. She became the youngest recipient of India’s highest peacetime military award for bravery, the Ashok Chakra.
Before becoming a purser, Neerja was a well known model.
Special Screening in London and Review:
Today I watched the special and exclusive screening of Neerja at the Twentieth Century Fox Studios at Soho Square London and here I am writing the Neerja review.
The movie is very well made. There are no stupidities in its making. The movie keeps you grasped for the entire 2 hours. It is very to the point and none of the scenes were irrelevant.
Sonam Kapoor has played the role of Neerja Bhanot and her acting is just brilliant, nothing like she has ever done before. She has completely nailed it. No one could have played this role better than Sonam.
Shabana Azmi has also done complete justice to the role playing her mother. All the other actors have done a brilliant job.
The songs are also very good.
Role Of Pakistan:
Although this incident took place on the pakistani soil, Pakistanis had no role in the hijack. Neerja was awarded Tamgha-e-Insaniyat (Award of Humanity) for her unconditional struggle to save the passengers. The film has unfortunately not yet been released in Pakistan. The reason is unknown but in my opinion the film is not at all politicized and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be released there.
My Feelings:
Neerja is an extremely emotional film, right from the very beginning. It is intense and you will cry, most definitely. There were times when I wanted to walk out of the theatre as I could not control my tears. The mere thought that this all happened in reality was unfathomable for me personally. I think motherly instincts are more powerful than humanly instincts and I as a mother could not digest the entire incident. Having said that, this must not stop you from watching the movie. Watch it for Neerja, Watch it for the hero she was, watch it for the victims who lost their lives.
HAVE YOU WATCHED NEERJA? WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT IT?
My heart goes out to Neerja for her heroic stunt in history! I would love to watch the movie even if it is emotional. x
